I met with two of my clients this week, two sisters, and they mentioned how working with me has helped them get out of their heads 🧠
One of the first tasks I assigned to them was content creation. They hadn’t created in a while, and I wanted them to generate some creative energy as well as do something they’ve been over thinking for a while. Content. Which most people overthink. I have a one thing at a time approach. When you can see the first step in front of you, you can get to the next.
Their main mental obstacles were “being performative”, not doing [content] right, not reaching their idea of success,
You can relate to this too, huh? You post your photo or video online… after spending hours on production and editing, and if you don’t get the reward you expect, it leads to disappointment. Disappointment is uncomfortable, which us feels unsafe. Your brain is wired to keep you safe. So the brain does you a favor by saying “I hate social media” or “I can never do what [name favorite influencer] does”. Instead you opt out of social media, and unintentionally opt out of sharing your ideas, building community, and making money.
We need to ask better questions and then form better solutions (that’s what I do for my clients all the time)
Remove the question “What will people think of this post?” from your brain. Switch it out for “How can I prove to myself that what I have to say is valuable?”.
This is your first step to showing up online with confidence. The next step is to formulate a plan of attack for your next 30 days. I know 30 days seems like a long time. The month of May felt like it was only 30 days ago.
Here is the thing about time: it does not stop ⏳
And the thing about ideas is that they have to come to life, no matter who is the creator of them. You are not the only receiver of an idea. I’m pretty sure you’ve had an idea, didn’t do anything with it and then saw someone else bring YOUR idea to life. Only part that you’re missing is that the idea isn’t yours until it’s been brought into the physical world. So what does time have to do with this?
The time starts ticking when an idea hits your brain, and you have to decide whether you’re going to bring the idea to life or skip over it. Time is the main reason people don’t go after their dreams, don’t go to the gym, don’t start their podcast, or don’t post online.
It’s why most people who wanted to start a youtube channel back in 2011, and didn’t regret it now.
👉🏽 Get over decision paralysis in 5 minutes with this trick:
Write down your idea, and do it. Pen, to paper, to action.
This trick is what helped me set up my printify, shopify, and use canva to create graphics for my new clothing line Not of This Planet in less than 48 hours.
I know, scary. But the only way around the uncertainty is through it. Want to post to your story? write it down, all your talking points, then do it. Want to go to the gym?Write down your goal for the day and what exercises you want to do, then put on your gym clothes and lift the weights!
There is too much time in between your ideas and execution, there’s too much over thinking, and its leaving you unfulfilled.
Once you’re done with your task, take a marker and cross it out.
This is important. What you’ve just done is teach your brain that its okay to be uncomfortable.
This trick alone is why so many of your faves are successful. And how you can start bringing your ideas into the physical world 👽
I asked my clients, “if your overthinking is leading to a lack of execution, then what value is that to the idea itself?”
What’s the point of dreaming if you don’t follow them? And I know what you’re going to say… "ITS HARD” — I hate to say this, but I don’t care. I know this is really aggressive. But I do mean it.
Your people need what you have. They need to know what you know. They need to see the content YOU want to create.
Wanting success, and everything in between, but believing that you can’t is that the people call, miscreation.
I recently learned about “miscreation” and its how focusing too much on what you don’t want can lead to creating the very thing you’ve been trying to avoid 🙃
The idea of being judged should not weigh heavier than your value for impact.
You’ve placed to much power on what you can’t control. You’re too worried about being judged on judgement day that you don’t show up to the competition with the idea you created. You’ve lost before you could even get started.
Use today to channel your creative energy. Remember that idea you had yesterday? write it down and get to work.
I want to leave you with this 👇🏽
Embrace discomfort as a sign of growth. Every small action toward your goal is a victory and deserves celebration. The clock never stops, and your ideas are waiting to be brought into reality. Time is yours.
What will you do with the time you have today?
